Thinking a little healthier

Recently I became fed up with my weight, and about the same time I heard about Wendie Pett on KTIS and her new program named Visibly Fit in 84 days.  Beginning Monday (October 8, 2012) I started logging what I ate and drank through the day.  Additionally I began using a Fitbit device for logging my activities.  I also am using a couple of iTunes Apps to track everything.  I have found tracking everything makes you think about what you are doing, especially from the standpoint of what you are eating.  So far, much of it has been EYE-OPENING!!!  Especially when you think you are eating something healthy and its no worse then something that we know is not good for the body.

  • Lose It! – Designed with one goal – to help you lose weight in healthy, sustainable way. No magic pills, no crazy diets – just a simple, easy-to-use program that helps you stay in your calorie budget.  Excellent for tracking what I eat and when.  I could do this in Fitbit, but I had already started logging in Lose It!, and I like the interface for it.  I was able to tie Fitbit to Lose It!, so Fitbit does see what I am consuming.  This is so nice, I only have to do it in one place.
  • FitBit – Let’s make fitness a fun, achievable part of everyday life. Our products track your health and fitness, then sync wirelessly to offer insight and encouragement whether you’re online or on the go.  The app allows you to sync the device through or view into the portal of your progress.  Lots of information and all of it can be motivational.  I also am able to share progress reports via email, twitter, and facebook and tie everything back to the Microsoft Health vault.
  • Day One – It’s easy to quickly enter your thoughts and memories and have them synced and backed up in the cloud.  Just good for writing down what is going on during each day, additionally I am keeping a journal of photo’s.
  • Menu Planner – Easily create meal plans, import recipes from popular recipe web sites, store your own recipes, keep track of what you have in your pantry (and how many), and integrate it all into your shopping list in one application!  We really need this at home for planning and making meals.  I am going to work on organizing this over the weekend.

I am not doing any exercises right now, but that is coming.  Right now it is tracking and becoming aware of what I am doing to my body.  I look forward to making improvements and hope to publish more of it here.
